UPDATE 08/03/2007
On Friday 08/03/07 I was called by the ND Tourism Department. They said that the map policy is now under review. Previous to this phone call you should know that I was contacted by one of the sharpest legal minds in ND who volunteered to help me out as long I would call the Governor and make it clear to him that I would prefer to be handing out the North Dakota map but being I was asked not to put my stickers on it and South Dakota was so willing to let me hand out their map I had no choice. If the Governor would not respond, or respond negitively, this well known lawyer would jump in with both feet. Well I called the Governors office and could not get past his secretary. I had always been able to speak to the Governor (John Hoeven) in person and in fact said hi to him just a day or two before at the State parade in Minot. I really did expect to hear from him but no, it didn't happen. Then this phone call from the State Tourism Department. They wanted to know if during this state of review I would like to have 250 maps sent to me. Yes! Yes, yes, yes! However I forgot to ask if I could put my stickers on while it is under review? Also note that I was passing out about 500 North Dakota maps a month in the past. I passed out 500 South Dakota maps plus 200 vacation guides in less then a week! It's hard to pass up that kind of opportunity so I ordered another 500 South Dakota maps (actually I had done that before ND offered to send me more maps). Again I need to thank Jill Schram of The Minot Daily News for breaking this story and I believe she is working on a follow-up with this latest development. I will tell you more as it continues to unfold. Thanks!
UPDATE 08/09/2007
I thought I'd better double check the part of putting labels on the 250 maps they sent me. The State of ND again said NO. Even while the policy is under review they do not want me to stick my label on it. Oh well, back to South Dakota.
UPDATE 09/30/2007
On Friday 09/28/07 I received 500 maps from MONTANA. I want to thank both MONTANA and SOUTH DAKOTA for their cooperation and letting me stick my little label on the map that says "Placed here compliments of Bob Timm, Realtor". ND still has not allowed the label but as soon as they do I will let you know and I will gladly distribute them again. I will also note that evidently Minnesota has the same policy as North Dakota, No we don't want people who want our map to get it if you put your little label on it. Oh well, hats off to the marketing folks in Montana and South Dakota. Anyone else out there want to send me 250 to 500 maps of their State to hand out?
